The Otters travelled to Holly Springs, North Carolina on Tuesday night and came away with a 1–1 draw against Wake FC. The match featured plenty of chances for both sides, but three post denials for the Otters left Danilo Seglio (Loyola Maryland) as the only goal scorer. The result leaves the Otters unbeaten in three games and moving up the USL League Two table. It was a wet and rainy night, but the Otters remained unfazed as they turned a dominating performance into a 3–0 win over first place West Virginia United. Led by a goal and assist from both Agu Ortiz (Anderson) and Tom Tzabari (Duquesne), the Otters new look 3–4–3 formation allowed for them to control the game for much of the match. The Otters earned their first draw of the season after a 1–1 result Sunday afternoon at TVA Credit Union Ballpark. The Otters got on the board late in the second half after Guillermo Segovia (Florida Tech) muscled a defender off the ball and caught the keeper off his line with an inch-perfect shot into the corner. Virginia Beach were able to equalize early in the second half after an initial save from goalkeeper Mars Gohier (Florida Southern) fell to a Virginia Beach attacker. Moving to a new stadium can bring many new options for the experience and atmosphere at games. The first month of the season is in the books for the Otters and was capped off with a massive 5–0 win away in Cary, NC for the Otters first USL League Two win of the season. The result marks the Otters first-ever road win in the month of May as well as their second-widest margin of victory in a league game. Following three straight road games to open up the league schedule, the Otters return home to face Lionsbridge FC on June 4th at 7 PM in TVA Credit Union Ballpark!


The Otters have tabbed Kyle Findlay as the first-ever head coach of their USL Academy team. This summer marks the inaugural season for the Otters’ participation in the newly formed USL Academy. Findlay currently serves as an assistant coach with the Otters’ USL League Two side, as well as being an assistant at local Milligan University. After nearly two years away from the pitch, the Otters got off to a blazing start, putting up three first half goals to take the first leg of the OtterSquatch Cup by a score of 3–1 against Appalachian FC. The Otters were led by Danilo Seglio (Loyola Maryland), who scored two goals and captain Aidan O’Brien (ETSU) scoring off a corner just before the half. The final signing of the 2021 class is one familiar to Otters fans and is looking to lead the Otters attack once again. During his first season in Johnson City, Segovia set numerous offensive records, many of which he still holds today. Following that summer, he transferred to Florida Tech where he has continued his high goal-scoring marks. The Otters begin their preseason today in Boone, North Carolina but return to Johnson City this Sunday to play their first-match in TVA Credit Union Ballpark. The Otters final group of signings brings varying levels of experience from a variety of levels of college soccer in the United States. Able to contribute on every level of the Otters formation, the five signings make up two Division I players, two from the NAIA, and one boasting extensive collegiate and professional experience. The Otters are set to take the field tomorrow for their first of two exhibitions against Appalachian FC, a new expansion side in the NPSL based in Boone, North Carolina.
