Adopt An Otter Program Returns for 2020 Season
Due to the massive success of the Adopt an Otter program last summer, it returns again for the 2020 season! As our players begin to make their way to Johnson City for the summer, we are looking for participants families for the program. However, there is no home stay involved, just helping your “adopted” Otter feel that community connection while they are here!
Many of our players play for colleges around the United States and many come from countries all over the world like England, Senegal, Brazil, and more. This program helps them get acclimated to a new place and know that there are people at games cheering specifically for them. Conversely, this allows families to make closer connections with players without the financial burden of a homestay.
To participate, families pay $200 which goes directly towards getting their Otter settled when they get to Johnson City. In return, our adopting families receive:
- One free camp registration (June 15–18, 2020)
- A fact sheet including the player’s bio and favorite foods and drinks
- A t-shirt with the player’s name and number*
- A child of your choice to walk out with the team during pre-game announcements
*Additional t-shirts for the family can be purchased for $20 apiece
There is no right way to adopt an Otter! Adopting families choose to do all kinds of different things. Many choose to bring their players goodie bags with their favorite things after games throughout the season. Some have chosen to have their Otter over for games and dinner, take them out for ice cream, or have a cookout. The Otters organization and players are thankful for whatever adopted families choose to do.
There are only 35 players, and they go quickly! Interested families should contact adopt@ottersoccer.com to receive their information packet. We will work to pair you with the Otter that best fits your families interests! All questions can be directed to that e-mail as well.
The 2020 season is right around the corner and players will be here before we know it. The Otters have been working closely with USL League Two and other teams in the South Atlantic Division and have every intention of playing this summer! You can follow Ottersoccer on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to stay up to date on all major changes and announcements regarding the 2020 season. #FearTheFur
