Otters Announce Summer Series of Events for 2020

Despite no formal season for the Otters in 2020, there will still be several events hosted in Johnson City this summer as the team celebrates the next era of the franchise. June and July will feature a youth camp, cornhole tournament, 5K, adult soccer 6-v-6 tournament, all culminating in an exhibition game on Tuesday, July 28th at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.

“The Otters are about community and family, even though our regular season was canceled we felt strongly about continuing to create events for our community. These events are focused on healthy fun and family. We cannot wait to see everyone this summer!” says owner David Strickland on the addition of the events.

From June 22nd–25th the Otters will be hosting their annual youth camp for players 5–18 years old and of all skill levels. There will be a half day camp for our younger campers and a full day camp for ages 10 and up; the cost is $75 and $165, respectively. Full details can be found here and registration can be done here. Make sure to sign up by June 18th to guarantee your shirt on the first day of camp!

Looking for a healthy otter-native to your daily routine? Beginning on June 22nd and running through July, the Otters will be sharing a fitness plan that all fans can participate in. Each week we will post a new set of workouts for the week that the whole family can get up and do together! Make sure to track your workouts and bring your completed form to the OTTERUN 5K or exhibition match on July 28th to redeem a prize!

The Otters will be hosting a cornhole tournament and field day at TVA Credit Union Ballpark on July 18th. Teams will be able to compete in a competitive or casual double elimination bracket. Registration for the cornhole tournaments is now open. The cost is $40 per team and covers entry into the event as well!

Cornhole not your game? Then come out and enjoy an afternoon of fun, food, games, music, beer, and more where the Otters play their home games! There will also be a contest for the best homemade cornhole boards! Information on how to enter the contest will be posted on social media. Entry into the event is $5 and is good for the whole day, wristbands can be purchased on HappsNow!

Friday, July 24th will see the first Otter Water Cup, an adult 6-v-6 soccer tournament, kickoff at TVA Credit Union Ballpark. Games will be played Friday night and during the day on Saturday. There will be three groups: an Open division, B division, and 35+ men/Co-Ed division. Teams can have a maximum roster of ten players and are guaranteed at least three games. Each division is currently limited to eight teams, the cost is $350 per team and registration is now open here or at Ottersoccer.com under Events!

Tentatively set for July 25th, the Otters will get up and get moving with the OTTERUN 5K to celebrate their relocation from Science Hill High School to TVA Credit Union Ballpark in downtown Johnson City. Starting at 7 PM, The course will begin and end at the stadium and will feature music, Otter Water, food trucks, and games afterwards. Registration will be available in the coming weeks, and will cost $25 per runner.

The summer’s festivities will conclude on Tuesday, July 28th at 7 PM when the Otters will play their first ever match at TVA Credit Union Ballpark. The Otters roster will feature many of the Otters 2020 commitments as well as several familiar faces. The match will benefit the TOP Soccer program in Johnson City. TOP Soccer is an organization focused on providing soccer opportunities for children or young adults with physical and/or mental disabilities. Tickets will go on sale soon at HappsNow!

“We weren’t able to have a season, but we still wanted to come up with several ways for the community to come together after the COVID-19 pandemic and begin to look forward,” says GM Lucas Christiansen, “We hope that even if you have never attended an Otters match you will want to come out and participate and have a good time!”
