Otters Sign Six Players From Across D-I
The season is drawing nearer and the next round of players that will be representing the Otters are ready to be announced. This group come from three different schools, including one of the most notable programs in college soccer history.
Franc Gamiz Quer (La Salle) started all 17 games he played in during his first season with the Explorers. The Spanish centerback made his mark on both sides of the ball also scoring two goals and an assist. For his efforts he was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team.
Another defender, Jordan Seaman (Akron) will be a freshman for the Akron Zips in the fall. A two-star prospect according to Top Drawer Soccer, Seaman brings versatility in both position and skillset. Seaman played with the Internationals Academy in the USDA. Akron were national champions in 2010, and have been runners-up three times, including the 2018 season.
Fellow Zip Gabriel Ramos (Akron) will be joining Seaman on the Otters this fall. The Brazilian midfielder was a part of the spring season with Akron before its early cancellation. The Zips have won 14 conference championships since the 2002 season. Ramos played club soccer in Brazil with incoming Otter Danilo Seglio.
The final group of players come from one of the programs on the rise in the Southern Conference. Under first year head coach Chris Rich, UNC Greensboro overcame a slow start to the season to finish as regular season co-champions and reached the championship game.
One of the young standouts from the Spartans was left back Ethan Conley (UNCG). Able to influence the game on both offense and defense, Conley started all but one game during his freshman season. He recorded three assists in 1,650 minutes. Conley has a similar on-field demeanor and style as Otters great Blake Barribeau.
Another young Spartan defender, Matthew Skinner (UNCG) logged 1,400 minutes at centerback. Starting all 16 games that he appeared in, Skinner was able to score a goal and an assist as well as record 11 shots. The freshman from Charlotte was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team for his efforts.
The final Spartan to join the Otters this summer is forward Cam Fowler (UNCG). A Knoxville native, Fowler made 18 appearances during the season, playing just under 600 minutes. Fowler scored three goals and finished top-five on the team in goals, points, shots, and shots on goal.
