The first-ever Otter Soccer Golf Tournament is in the books! Last Saturday, over 50 golfers came out to Pine Oaks Golf Course in Johnson City to help raise money for youth soccer opportunities in our area. With beautiful weather, great food, and plenty of prizes, the day was enjoyed by all and a major success!

Coach David Strickland on the the first tournament: “What a great day of golf for our first annual Otters Golf Tournament. My hope in planning this event was that number one the weather would cooperate…check it did. Next was that we would have a good host of sponsors who wanted to be involved with a project that will have our Otters program make an impact on young people lives…check they did! Third was to have a golf tournament where the participates in the tournament are telling you when they are leaving for the day, “that was an absolute blast, I will be back next year”…check….mission accomplished! We look forward to hosting our second annual Otters Golf Tournament in 2022. A special thank you to Bonefish Grill for the amazing food they hosted the tournament with, delicious!”

Golfers were treated to a day of fun, food and drinks. Breakfast greeted the golfers when they arrived and lunch from Bonefish Grill was provided after the tournament. On hole 13, golfers were able to get freshly made bang-bang chicken right on the course as they prepared to putt. Participants were able to compete in a variety of competitions for prizes as well as the overall team prize that included Otters season tickets, custom Yeti cups, and dinner for eight at Bonefish Grill. Congrats to Charlie Lowe, Jamie Thomas, Collin Johnson, and Nathan Buckmaster on scoring an impressive 52 to win by two strokes and take home the grand prize!

“The inaugural golf tournament was a great success based on the amount of golfers that said they would be back. The aim was to provide a fun, competitive, and rewarding event for golfers, with top notch catering and prizes. I honestly believe that was achieved thanks to our great sponsors,” said Otters Co-Owner and tournament organizer Derek Murphy about the day.

The Otters will be taking the field two weeks from today in Boone, North Carolina, when they face off with Appalachian FC of the NPSL before returning to Johnson City on May 9th to face them again. Tickets for that match and the season are now on sale at Happsnow.com! Registration for TOPSoccer is also open until May 8th, more information and dates can be found here. Be sure to follow the Otters on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to stay up to date as we head into the 2021 season! #FearTheFur #NewYearNewOtters
